Acclaimed artist Lynette Cook has been announced the winner of Art and Color 365 Magazine’s International Acrylics Art Competition.
Cook’s winning entry, “A Tribute to Adeline,” (Dropbox link below) is a 30” x 48” acrylic painting that depicts a Bay Area building, its façade transformed by crisscrossing shadows and silhouettes produced by fire escapes, balconies, and ironwork, as the sun traverses the sky, resulting in detailed geometric designs.
Cook has exhibited her award-winning work extensively for nearly 40 years and it can be found in public and private collections across the globe. For more than 25 years, Cook was a renowned astronomical artist, collaborating with researchers in the field of astronomy to illustrate planets that were being discovered outside of our solar system. These illustrations have been published worldwide.
Virginia Bayes, Editor-in-Chief of Art and Color 365 Magazine stated, “We received hundreds of entries in our Acrylics Competition. Cook’s work was awarded first prize due to the elevation of an everyday subject into a striking work of art with the masterful use of composition, light, and shadow.”
