The Australia Council for the Arts wishes to acknowledge the passing of philanthropist Mick Dark. Michael (Mick) Dark was born in 1929 to Eleanor Dark, one of Australia’s most notable writers, and Dr Eric Dark. It was Mick who decided that Varuna, their family home in Katoomba, should become a gift to Australian literature in memory of his parents.

The Australia Council for the Arts is deeply saddened by the passing of Australian jazz drummer and composer Allan Browne. Mr Browne was a significant leader in Australia’s music culture. He received the Australia Council’s Don Banks Award in 2001, numerous Australian Jazz Bell Awards and was inducted into its Hall of Fame in 2004.
