REMOTE SENSE

RESIDENCIES AND MENTORING IN CASTLEMAINE
Applications now open for this quick response residency round

Applications due 5pm, 4 August, 2010

Aphids (based in Melbourne), Punctum (based in Castlemaine) and Castlemaine State Festival are joining forces to assist 2 young and emerging Australian artists working with the moving image (video/ animation / film/ machinima/ expanded cinema and more) to undertake unique professional and creative development hosted by Punctum at its Incubator space.

REMOTE SENSE will see a period of invention and intervention within Castlemaine’s metallurgic landscape, and conversation with the local film community, with potential outcomes generated through the mentorship potentially leading to exhibition and screenings as part of the Castlemaine State Festival.

The selected mentorees will be matched with the following film makers :

THE MENTORS
Paul Fletcher is an award winning experimental animation filmmaker, multi media writer and composer. He lectures in animation at the VCA, is a member of Live Arts organisation, Punctum, experimental music and sound art collective Undue Noise, and is a curator for Melbourne International Animated Film Festival. He lives in Central Victoria.

Miles Bennett is a visual artist, writer, director, editor.
His work spans TV commercials, screen based installations, sculpture with light and found/manipulated objects and sound. His work is collected by ACMI (The Australian Centre for the Moving Image), Bennett has worked on Australia’s first 4K digital ‘Full Dome Film’ with producer/director John Weiley, shot Frank Howsons new digital feature ‘Remembering Nigel’ and collaborated with American director Darren Aronofsky to document his feature (during the Australian leg) ‘The Fountain’. He lives in Central Victoria.

PUNCTUM: LIVE ARTS INCUBATOR SPACETHE RESIDENCY HOST
The Residency will be hosted by Punctum at its Incubator Space. Founded in 2004, Punctum creates and produceslive arts projects and programs that showcase and support artists and arts organizations seeking to build work in a regional context. In assisting and mentoring artists through its live arts incubator, Punctum engenders risk taking, cross cultural exchange and collaboration. www.punctum.com.au

CASTLEMAINE and CASTLEMAINE STATE FESTIVAL
Castlemaine is one of Australia?s most important regional hubs of contemporary art practice and home to Castlemaine State Festival. REMOTE SENSE sees potential presentation outcomes as part of the 2011 Castlemaine State Festival.

Mentoring and Residency Dates:
The mentorship period falls between Sep 30 – November 20, 2010

The DEAL
>> A cash contribution of $2000 + gst (if applicable) towards artist fees, mentoring, materials, travel and living costs.
>> Tailored mentoring by Paul Fletcher and Miles Bennett depending on the project and your needs.
>> Accommodation, residency at Punctum’s incubator and access to Punctum’s facilities and support
>> Potential mentoring outcomes exhibited and/ or screened through Castlemaine State Festival in 2011.
