“EXPANDING HORIZONS”
Whilst everyone is busy tackling Christmas shopping lists, Carmen McFaull is putting her final touches on works she has been preparing for the past few months for her third solo exhibition for the year called “Expanding Horizons”.
This exhibition takes the viewer on a visual journey from our West Australian coastline to distant shores. Carmen explores subject matter that takes you beyond obvious boundaries, where bands of colour and loose shapes express water, boats and their associations. These works are vibrant in colour and entice us to relive our pleasant memories of summertime and travels to unique destinations.
“Most places I visit are close to water which has a therapeutic quality. Paintings with water have a calming effect and are pleasant to look at.
Rottnest Island always offers a variety of pristine bays, whereas the Italian coastline engages you with a feeling of the excitement of a different culture and making new discoveries.
I have even found beautiful subject matter on our doorstep at Trigg, Pinaroo dog beach, and then further afield at Dunsborough, Denmark, Esperance and Broome
Figures are also an important part of my art making. By recently working in acrylics, I have been able to try new ideas with shapes, sometimes working through many layers to achieve a more creative result. This is when self- expression takes over ! The reward is a wonderful gift.”
