Matt Bromhead


Longline is a rope that runs between the past and now, from which moving sculpture, drawing and painting are strung. The work mimics the fluidity and jibber of each day, and suggests ways to balance and stay afloat.

Matt Bromhead works across drawing, painting and sculpture. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the College of Fine Arts, UNSW in 2008. Since being awarded the Lloyd Rees Memorial Youth Art Award in 2007, Bromhead has been a finalist in numerous art awards throughout Australia including the Paddington Art Prize (2017), Hazelhurst Art on Paper Award (2016), Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe (2014), Harris Hobbs Sculpture Prize (2014), and the Churchie National Emerging Art Prize (2010). In 2011 Bromhead received an Australia Council ArtStart grant, and in 2016 received a NAVA Artists’ Grant. He has been awarded residencies at Bundanon Trust (2013, 2014), Hill End Artists in Residence (2016) and CAMAC Arts Centre in Marnay-Sur-Seine, France (2017).
