Through a series of video interviews with significant politicians, lawyers and queer rights activists and organisations, the project reveals some of the histories around the ongoing marriage equality and LGBTQIA+ debates in Taiwan. In 2017 the Taiwanese Constitutional Court in Taiwan ruled the existing marriage laws unconstitutional and gave parliament two years to amend them. On 24 May 2019 new legislation introduced a separate law legalising same sex marriage. Australia’s recent marriage equality and LGBTQIA+ rights debates share some similarities with the Taiwanese context, offering a unique opportunity for discourse, exchange and reflection.
Equal Love is being presented in connection with Queer Nations in Project Space.
