SPACE 1: Dreamscapes II by Erica Bettles
Still Life by Luis Martinez

What draws us to remote and wild places? Humans have an innate connection to the earth, we have a primal urge to seek out new and different worlds. For me, landscapes have always been vivid in my memories, signifying events, time and place in my life. Through my work I explore concepts of belonging, familiarity, escapism and the unknown. By creating a series of environments based on pieces of real places, the works are intended to feel familiar yet different, real and surreal, allowing the viewers to generate their own interpretations & meaning of these habitats. What happens when we see terrain through
a different lens?

Exploring abstracted shapes, colours and the oddities that arise in scenery is a feature concept. I want to take the viewer to another world, invert the existing and play with naturally occurring forms. Choosing colours is a big part of developing this narrative; they set the tone and mood of the dreamscapes. Some are quite varied in palette and others restricted.
By altering colour, the light and choosing unusual combinations that don’t often occur in the environment, the original image takes on a new meaning. The exaggerated or abstracted textures, unique line gestures & patterns are another key element to these stories. Taken from the original and subtly twisted, layered and/or simplified, these environments are built upon and are shaped by each line – creating new feelings, depth, dimension and form. These strange places develop their new identities through this mixture of shades, patterns and overlapping and intersecting strokes.

Ultimately these images are designed to capture the viewers attention immediately and submerse them into these unique lands, into a dreamlike world, evoking relief from unpleasant realities of day to day mundane life or trigger a distant memory of a place you have been before but can’t quite remember.

SPACE 2: Suburban Seclusion
Janine McGuinness

My practice concerns the politics of (in)visibility and the relationship of people, place and space. I am particularly interested in moments of isolation, solitude, alienation and disempowerment in suburban landscapes. Such moments are easily overlooked or ignored.

My images frequently capture seemingly empty contexts with traces of human experience; rather than the physical presence or direct gaze of subjects. In this series, Suburban Seclusion,
I explore how features of household interiors and exteriors can echo the loneliness and isolation of living in suburbia.

SPACE 3: Curiosities in Clay.
Charlotte Archer

My work is an exploration through clay of beauty in, the symmetry, the chaos, the bold, the simple, the delicate, the perfect and imperfect. I like to explore the way that each of these holds their own space between their similarities and their differences, creating in our reality the natural world.

In clay I spend countless hours manipulating and slowly drawing out a form that strives to hold the essence of structures found deep within nature. I hope my pieces capture this essence, along with the intricacies and delicacies created in the matrix of our living earth, highlighting its beauty, its fluidity of motion, and its overall balance of existence.

The fragility of the earth and its systems can be forgotten, my work brings elements of the beauty of our natural world to any place they reside.
