From the French word meaning ocean spray, La petite fabrique de Brunswick ceramicist Lucile Sciallano has created this new work that refers to the colour and movement of a wave crashing on the shore. Embrun is a series of vessels utilising offset geometry and negative space. It is composed of seven functional pieces including vases, plates, bowls and a jug. They are all slip-cast by hand, which enables the objects to be modified after they are cast, so each object is slightly different.

Based in Brunswick East since Lucile arrived from France, La petite fabrique is a ceramic studio creating handmade functional ceramics. In her work, Lucile likes to play with geometry and gesture, but also how ceramics are used for making, presenting and eating food, and how this connection can be included in the design process.

Lucile is a member of the C.O.M Collective including artists Jennifer Conroy, Dawn Tang, Ben Landau who have come together to expand their mutual practices and host events. The Collective moved into EBV 12 months ago with artists working from their own container next to the EBV Display Suite free of charge. The studio collective found its home in EBV after meeting with Andy Dinan, EBV’s public art consultant and director of ADA Public Art and MARS Gallery. Dinan’s aim as a consultant is to give spaces to local artists so EBV operates as a central hub for the thriving creative scene in Moreland.
