FRONT GALLERY : : MELBOURNE COLLAGE NOW by Melbourne Collage Assembly

Aaron Ashwood | Morgan Campbell | Simone Esterhuizen | Mel Lineham | Aylsa McHugh | Lee McKenna | Kieran Madden | Max Malone

Melbourne Collage Now is a survey of contemporary collage by members of the Melbourne Collage Assembly, a group of artists who predominantly work with collage and assemblage. From Picasso to Rosenquist to the DIY album art of Punk icons, collage’s influence has been present in many Twentieth Century art movements and subcultures. Yet despite its use from Cubism to Post Modernism, it remains a subversive art form often overlooked.
These artists source materials through a process of chance discovery and the obsessive collecting of print ephemera. Working with mainly analog techniques they each apply different approaches collage, providing a unique insight into contemporary collage and the possibilities of the medium.

BACK GALLERY : : TASTE OF COLOUR by Carlos Cui

“Taste of Colour” is a new collection of paintings depicting my love of food. I try to capture the colours, textures and freshness of these favourite foods into my artwork, as a result, my process becomes more like cooking instead of painting. I represent different food together, illustrating sweet, sour, crispy and chewy; colour then morphs into taste. I invite the viewer to enjoy the delicious taste of my work.

SIDE GALLERY : : IN THE BEGINNING by Kara Mandel

The motifs and narratives we cultivate and preserve through the act of storytelling, visual or otherwise, shape our identities personally and collectively. In the Beginning explores humanity in relationship to the universe by teasing out visions and symbols that serve as fragmented elements of a personal cosmology.
The creation of these watercolour paintings celebrates a life-bearing connection to nature and the cosmos— a meeting place where the sensual human experience merges with the divine.

UPSTAIRS GALLERY : : THE END by Suki & Lobster Juice

Artists Suki and Lobster Juice explore the theme of endings. Suki delves into heartbreak and the idea that sometimes a new beginning is better than a happy ending. Lobster Juice blends in dark humour regarding the problems the world and society face. Whatever happened to the good old days full of sunshine and the innocent laughter of children? The world now burns and the children have anxiety. So sit back, relax and pop a Valium. This is The End.
