SPACE 1: Why Is The Sky Blue?
Mikaela Stafford
Mikaela Stafford is a self taught 3D motion graphics artist exploring themes of curiosity, abundance and joyfulness. Her animation series considers ideas of AI consciousness and often depicts thriving and abundant bio-digital environments where technology and the natural world exist harmoniously. This symbiosis is an important metaphor as we enter a new era of technological development, as we continue to face unfamiliar challenges and opportunities of a cyber-physical world.
Integrating traditional methods of photography, sculpture and lighting design into her digitally rendered 3D environments she creates vibrant and playful work. With a background in stage design, installation art and painting, Stafford’s practice is particularly interested in the intersection between physical and virtual worlds. Marrying familiar biomorphic forms with imagined environments, her digitally rendered work creates scenes without limits.

SPACE: 2
OLIVIA SIDDAWAY
Olivia Siddaway is a Melbourne based photographic artist that works with both analogue and alternative processes. She is most interested in darkroom techniques and explores the sensitising of different surfaces paired with digital negatives to produce images with ultra-violent light. Working primarily in medium format Olivia is drawn to natural and urban landscapes and compositions that employ a shallow depth of field.
Her exhibition entitled “Life is a Journey” is a series of 15 images that are a combination of black and white silver gelatin prints, cyanotypes on paper and a fabric photogram.
This body of work has been inspired by the stillness of place that is devoid of life however human presence is felt. With each image depicts the juxtaposition between the beginning of a journey and the human desire for escapism. Represented through compositions of doorways, windows, paths and roads, each image leads the viewers gaze into the depth of the photograph to imagine and wonder what could be beyond. The eye following that cobblestone road with uncertainty of the destination and wondering if this path will provide an escape from tragedy and hardships. What will be discovered at the end of the road, through the window or behind that door. Is it what we have been craving and wishing for or is the grass not always greener on the other side.

PIPPA MAKGILL
Pippa Makgill is a Melbourne based artist with a practice that spans painting and sculpture. Her work addresses the idea of shifting materiality and the presence of the ‘formless’ in space.
She often applies the concept of ‘fluidity’ to her work which captures the idea of gesture within static mediums. This work ‘Flotsum’ is part of a continual investigation into paints potential to weave space and reveal it’s materiality.
The interaction of gesture, fluidity, fragmentation, opacity and broken paint disrupts the traditions of figure, ground and form.
This experimental approach let’s paint carve out it’s own from revealing it’s body and edges.
