The wonderfully commissioned piece addresses all stages of life and death. Silvestri’s wife, Julie, died of ovarian cancer at age 36 in 2005, leaving two young children. Including texts from Silvestri, Whitacre and Julie herself, the intimate, compelling score tells a story of courtship, love, loss and the search for solace. Although inspired by this extraordinary and moving friendship, the piece does not mention Julie by name and shares a very human journey – one that so many of us can relate to.

Whitacre will be conducting two performances of the moving piece, with the choir of Trinity College, one of the finest university choirs in the Southern Hemisphere, and Polyphonic Voices, a Melbourne chamber choir that was formed by former Trinity choristers. The show is directed by Michael Fulcher and Christopher Watson, an English singer who used to work regularly with Whitacre in the UK.
