Luke Fowler
First major survey
The films of Luke Fowler explore the limits of documentary film-making. Innovatively combining new and archival footage, interviews and photography with a densely-layered soundtrack, his work is also a critical response to the idea that documentary can offer us a single objective truth.

Fowler’s meticulously researched subjects include vanguard thinkers and counter-cultural figures, such as RD Laing, Cornelius Cardew and Bogman Palmjaguar. Collaboration is a key element of his process, while he also moves fluidly himself between the roles of artist, curator, historian, film-maker and musician. A central figure in Glasgow’s vibrant art scene, in 2008 he won the inaugural Jarman Award for artist film-makers, presented at the Serpentine Gallery. This exhibition is the first major survey of the artist’s work to date.
