As gladiatorial sports battles are played out against a chanting and adoring mass of fans, including trophy-wives, loyal families, old Melbourne establishment and die-hard sports nuts, what is happening in the out-of-sight spaces? Sports Club 2 invites audiences beneath the arena, to experience a series of altered images, faux coaching sessions, video replays and sonic interventions. When the crowd dissipates, what goes on behind the scenes, in the change-rooms, board rooms and the stadium itself? What kind of investment does it take to be the best – from the personal commitment, internal conflicts and superhuman efforts of the athletes themselves, to the contributions and influence of the industry?
