In this new body of work, Dianne has drawn upon her immediate surrounds, as much as a sense of botanical histories; as she has noted:

There are botanical elements present in the work but I’m attracted to the broader sense of the term. The idea of a contained space with sides where there is an ambient temperature and a sense of secrecy and protection of what is inside the walls. The work is inspired by the garden where elements have been planted and designed by someone’s hand but there is no real control over the outcome. I understand that a walled garden might keep the visitor navigating within a specific space but what happens is individual to the visitor just like the work within the gallery walls.

Dianne Fogwell’s art practice is centred on printmaking, painting and artists books. As well as being a consummate technician in all facets of her art practice, Dianne has also made a major contribution to the art community through teaching, curating and establishing presses and print studios. In a career spanning 30 years, she has had many solo exhibitions nationally, and has participated in a number of significant group exhibitions both within Australia and internationally, including the 1st International Book Arts Fair in Seoul, Korea. Most recently she was voted the “People’s Choice” in the 2010 Swan Hill Print and Drawing Prize” for her work, “Study – Autumn Garden”, which is included in this current exhibition.

Prof.Sasha Grishin has noted of Dianne Fogwell’s art practice:

Dianne Fogwell, is a master craftsman with an exceptional command of printmaking technologies. She is also an artist who is particularly obsessed with the surfaces of her works…As the viewer stares into her dense radiating surfaces there is a quality of alchemy about the work – we are never quite certain exactly how it was done….Having observed and admired Fogwell’s art for more than two decades, I never cease to be amazed by the fecundity of her imagination. (“Canberra Times”, Monday, August 25, 2008)

Dianne is widely represented in Australian public galleries and museums, corporate and private collections throughout Australia and overseas.
