Genie Raftopoulos: Minor Dreams and Delirium Tremens

Minor Dreams and Delirium Tremens collects an emphatically eclectic body of work in which Genie Raftopoulos endeavours to access the imagery of her subconscious and code her experiences into potent symbols. These works, hung in vintage frames in a salon style, harness the immediacy of watercolour, depicting daydreams both whimsical and vulnerable.

Art Exhibition previously on at NO NO GALLERY in Melbourne precinct, Victoria, Australia.
From Thursday 14 October 2010 to Saturday 30 October 2010
Launch Thursday 14 October 2010, 6-8pm

Artist statement:
“We are all subjects of the visual. We navigate our environments seemingly unaware of the effects of the visual. Imagery is processed and disregarded but not forgotten; it is pushed into the recesses of the mind. Some images are coded, becoming dreams. They are rearranged into compositions laced with symbology that we decode to make sense of our daily experiences.” – Genie Raftopoulos

Genie Raftopoulos has exhibited in solo and curated group exhibitions in Melbourne, Brisbane, and Montreal, including at Trocadero Art Space in Footscray, at Melbourne’s Loop Bar as part of the program for the 2006 Next Wave festival, and at the renowned Videographé in Montreal. She graduated with a Bachelor of Visual Arts (Fine Art) from Griffith University in 2000. This is her first exhibition at NO NO GALLERY, a curator-run not-for-profit art space in North Melbourne which opened in May 2010.
