The paper is activated through a process involving several weeks of burial in organic debris and soil. The artist then mimics the chaotic patterns created by fungi, bacteria and rot through subtle and meticulous watercolour drawing. Rich with metaphorical imagery and focused on cycles and process, Fabián Gutiérrez Bahena’s work defies the notion of dying as an end.
