The ephemeral nature of her new installation expresses Gleave’s celebratory gesture of the persistent optimisms we encounter every day. These prosaic works continue to have relevance and perhaps are rendered even more significant by the immeasurable nature of their presence and purpose, despite the often-concrete requirements of contemporary life.

About Michaela Gleave

Michaela Gleave completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts at the School of Art, Hobart in 2003 and a Master of Fine Arts at College of Fine Arts, UNSW in 2007. She has held several solo exhibitions in Sydney, notably Snowfield at MOP Projects (2009) and Constructing Space: Experiments in Light at Tin Sheds Gallery (2007). In addition Gleave has been represented in numerous group shows including Primavera 09, curated by Jeff Kahn at the MCA; Game is Good, Firstdraft Gallery, Sydney (2009); 2008 Next Wave Festival and Raise High the Roof Beam at BUS Gallery, Melbourne. She has been awarded a Marten Bequest Travelling Scholarship, as well as being a finalist for the Qantas Spirit of Youth Awards. In 2010 Gleave undertook residencies in Skagastond, Iceland, Berlin, Germany and Alice Springs.
