DAVID SPENCER – 32,000 DAYS – February 21st, 2008
32,000 days is the average lifespan of the human being on earth. In Spencer’s newest body of work, we find an insight into the most recent days of his life. The exhibition is in essence, a random selection of pages from his diary:
“Painting the relevant, painting the emotional and all the other things I’ve seen and heard along the way. I aim to create abstract representation of the significance of those strange or special days. The painful and the brilliant dispositions in my life and the many ripples they cause now rest on the walls around me.”
Well known locally for his unique depictions of the world around him, 32,000 Days is the first exhibition to focus on the inward psyche of the artist. Recent upheavals have spawned a new palette, a new repertoire of symbols and sparked experimentation with a new range of materials. Easily Spencer’s most complex body of work to date, 32,000 Days is set to be an exhibition not to miss.
