These young designers are on the forefront of Australian contemporary design and are readily gaining a reputation as distinguished ideators and practitioners.
Daniel To & Emma Aiston established Daniel.Emma after gaining experience with various design studios in London, such as Marc Newson, Thorsten Van Elten and Committee. In 2009 they were listed by Wallpaper* magazine as one of the recent design graduates to watch. In 2010 they were awarded the Blueprint ‘most promising talent’ at 100% Design London, as well as winning the Bombay Sapphire Australian Design Discovery award – the most prestigious design award in Australia. Object is delighted to be exhibiting their new series, a wonderful collection of playful homewares before it exhibits at London Design Week.
“Our designs aim to be just nice” - Daniel.EmmaThomas Llewellyn is a trained industrial designer interested in making objects with artistic enquiry, exploring domestic habitats and the everyday tools that support living, producing and thinking. In 2010 he won the Craft Victoria fresh! Award and the Green magazine sustainable practice award. His cross media works encourage the viewer to re-examine their relationship with objects and view the potential they have to be transformed.
“Our relationship in creating and using objects involves not only how we guide them but also how they guide us.” - Thomas LlewellynDaniel.Emma and Thomas have used the concept of vessels in HERE.NOW. to create a connection between their works. It is an examination of both the positive and negative space that a vessel creates. This playful exhibition charts the evolution of objects and adaptation to things of play and use.
HERE.NOW. is showing in the Project Space of Object: Australian Design Centre from Saturday 8 September until Saturday 3 November 2012.
