TIWI TRADITION

A favourable response to the artistic style of the Munupi artists from Melville Island and an appreciation from Perth art collectors at their 2011 exhibition has prompted Artitja Fine Art to invite the artists back to show their latest works at the TIWI TRADITION exhibition, opening on Friday 19th October.

Artists including Francesca (Nellie) Puruntatameri will travel to South Fremantle to represent their painting community and will perform an opening ceremony on the night.

A remote island comprising of rainforest, sandy beach and waterholes and accessible only by barge, light aircraft and the occasional cruise liner, Melville Island is located 80km north of Darwin, and is known for its art, culture and love of AFL football.

TIWI TRADITION is free to the public opening 6.30pm on the 19th October and will run until the 4th November daily from 11am to 5pm, exhibiting at Earlywork, 330 South Terrace, South Fremantle. Artists will be present at the opening and in the gallery for the floor talk on Sat 20th October.
