Archetypes for the brave new world

recent work by Adam Lester

Adam brings us his ‘archetypes’- The process by which the works are constructed, is as wonderfully playful as the works themselves. Adam paints directly from children’s toy replicas and models of originals. In effect Adam is recreating a replica of an original in a style to which he has become renowned.

Art Exhibition previously on at Michael Reid at Elizabeth Bay in Sydney precinct, New South Wales, Australia.
From Friday 08 February 2008 to Thursday 06 March 2008

These energetic works emerge from fluorescent spray cans, strong confident drips of paint and quirky fine line detailed drawings.

The result is a body of work that is both funky and playful. Adam’s inspiration comes from his own new experiences of fatherhood and the joy and wonder of play.

Adam in turn reminds us all of our childhood and allows us access to the possibility such toys can bring. He elevates the importance of the toy as a tribute to the beauty and magic that can be created by simply allowing worlds to be imagined.
