David Aspden: Survey

A Bathurst Regional Art Gallery touring exhibition.

David Aspden (1935–2005) is one of Australia's foremost painters who first came to prominence in the mid-1960s with his large ‘hard-edge’ abstractions. Aspden’s immersion in the world of music led to celebrated painterly compositions featuring glowing colour and gestural brush strokes that strove to evoke the energy and rhythm of classical harmonies and jazz.

Art Exhibition previously on at Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery in Australia.
From Thursday 02 May 2013 to Sunday 02 June 2013

Two of these were included in the National Gallery of Victoria’s groundbreaking exhibition The field in 1968, including one from which the exhibition took its name.

This major survey exhibition features some 30 paintings sourced from the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery’s own collection, private collections and the Estate of David Aspden and brings together works that explore the artist’s three great loves: colour, landscape and music.
