They explore, with a mixture of pleasure and anxiety, the body’s relation to water, to light and to darkness. For Nolan St Kilda is a site for hedonism and foolery while for Hester there is a potential for violence. Blackman captures the threat of drowning while Tucker finds carnality in its streets. Other artists will include Esther Paterson who celebrates a benign, sunny perspective while Jill Orr, a major performance artist, returns to the themes Tucker, Hester and Blackman mine, and presents a challenging image of the body.
