The McCulloch family’s close artistic connections to the Mornington Peninsula span more than eight decades since founding MPRG director Alan McCulloch, his brother Wilfred McCulloch, Arthur Boyd and others established an artists’ camp near Cape Schanck in the 1930s. Twenty years later, Alan and Ellen McCulloch purchased the 1870s cottage Whistlewood at Shoreham as a family home. With a studio built by Arthur Boyd, in the ensuing decades Whistlewood has hosted some of the most famous names in the Australian and international arts world. Susan McCulloch, Alan and Ellen McCulloch’s daughter, will explore this rich artistic history through rare early photographs of artists, places and the art they produced.
