Haim Steinbach: once again the world is flat

The work of acclaimed American artist Haim Steinbach is a staging of a variety of objects, from a spectrum of social and cultural contexts, from the everyday to the historical. The exhibition at the Serpentine will include several major new works, one of which will be created with approximately 150 salt and pepper shakers, and this is where you can help us!

Art Exhibition previously on at Serpentine Galleries in City of London, United Kingdom.
From Wednesday 05 March 2014 to Monday 21 April 2014

Haim Steinbach: once again the world is flat image

Steinbach is interested in salt and pepper shakers of a wide variety: those that are used every day, those kept for formal occasions, those both figurative and minimal in design, and everything in between. Perhaps you own a pair you cherish and use; or that you rarely use; do not like; or have inherited? However they came into your possession, and why you have chosen to share them with us, we would like to know.

If you are interested in participating, please send an email to Emma Enderby (emmae@serpentinegalleries.org) including contact details of the owner of the salt and pepper shakers and an image of the shakers, with the title of the image being your name. The deadline for submission is 10 February 2014, when a selection of approximately 150 will be made.

Once we notify you of the final selection, we will confirm a date for delivery which will be during the installation period (circa 19 February – 3 March) – and of course you must feel happy to lend them for the duration of the show. We shall also contact you regarding the collection date for the objects closer to the closing date of the exhibition.

We of course will treat these objects with the same respect and care as the other works on display; and while there will be a guard in the gallery, we cannot guarantee their complete safety. Objects are left at their own risk.

Your support is the key to the success of this project, so thank you in advance for lending us your salt and pepper shakers.
