Inspired by the title of his 1983 film, City of Pirates and his experimental, mystery-filled publication The Book of Disappearances/The Book of Tractations, this Park Nights evening invites French actor Melvil Poupaud, who appeared in several of Ruiz’s films, to bring together world-famous actors, poets, philosophers and writers for a series of homages to the legendary director. Ruiz’s long-time collaborator, producer Paulo Branco, as well as his wife and fellow director Valeria Sarmiento will also join this evening, which will include special screenings and music as well as the serving of food, all inspired by Ruiz’s oeuvre. The evening will present the opportunity to read and see new translations of material by Ruiz. Participants will include essayist and academic Andrés Claro and poet Waldo Rojas.
