THE VIEW - AMERICA

video works by Kate Russell

In 2012 and 2013 Kate travelled across diverse parts of America with her partner and young son. They visited and strayed from well-worn paths. Craving more intimate views and conscious of the transitory nature of their trip, Kate recorded the places and moments by setting up a camera alone and filming what she saw.

Art Exhibition previously on at TESTING GROUNDS in Melbourne precinct, Victoria, Australia.

The simple action of pressing record and standing quietly by the camera became reward in itself.

This process of experiencing solace in front of the lens proved addictive and significant moments emerged from each location.

The resulting footage is selected views from a California garden, an earth ship rooftop in New Mexico, a Utah road stop, sunrise in Nevada and a morning in Yellowstone N.P., Wyoming.

The View is part of an ongoing practice.
