While on leave from his post as an officer in the Madras Infantry, Linnaeus Tripe mastered photography and was commissioned as ‘Photographer to the Madras Government’. His images combine the eye of a surveyor with the sensibilities of an artist. The display is a collaboration between the V&A, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and the National Gallery of Art, Washington.
