The Photograph and Australia

The story of Australia is told through the art and technology of photography in this major survey, organised by the Art Gallery of New South Wales. From the 1840s to the twenty-first century, the exhibition chronicles evolving photographic approaches to the people and the land of Australia.

Alongside the work of unknown photographers and historical ephemera, such as cartes de visite, domestic albums and mug shots, are images drawn from dozens of collections, including pictures by Richard Daintree, Charles Bayliss, Frank Hurley, Harold Cazneaux, Olive Cotton, Max Dupain, Sue Ford, Carol Jerrems, Tracey Moffatt, Robyn Stacey, Ricky Maynard and Patrick Pound.
