May will find us in our new home at 101-115 William Street, Darlinghurst – marking the opening of the new Australian Design Centre with an opening night gala event in collaboration with Vivid Ideas.

The gala will see the reveal of the first 50 members of our Australian Design Honours cohort, an online digital publication and a physical exhibition showcase celebrating the leading lights of Australian design. The digital publication will launch in May, whilst five exhibitions will pop up in the William Street Storefront from May through to the end of the year.

But the opening night gala is just the beginning – from May, the newly-minted William Street Storefront will come alive with a host of events, exhibitions, and activations celebrating our milestone year.

Looking to the future while celebrating the past, 2015’s program is set to include; the launch of the Gold Club, a series of symposiums celebrating influential women in Australian design; the return of our Designers Den events, an opportunity for young and emerging designers to test their skills and ideas in front of industry veterans; the Future Nature Living Lab Exhibition and Artist-in-Residence, an investigation of possible futures posed by artists, designers and architects exploring the field of biomimicry; Shapeshifters, an exploration of creative innovation made possible by 3D-printing and a showcase of work by artists and design practitioners that achieve levels of expression never before possible; and a very special 50th anniversary showcase exhibition and auction set to close the year in December.

We’ve been busy working closely with Those Architects, appointed in December last year as the creative force to lead the design of our new home. The new multi-purpose space is supported by an accommodation grant from the City of Sydney, and will function as a gallery, creative workspace, live workshop, and education centre with a dedicated street presence focused on the busy William St and nearby Barnett Lane.

For 50 years Object has played a vital role in championing Australian design; embodying innovation, creativity, and the transformative power of design. Our 50th anniversary is an exciting opportunity to not only celebrate an illustrious history but also to look to the future and set sights on the next 50 years.
