The Asia Pacific’s largest contemporary visual arts festival returns to the MCA in 2016, showcasing innovative contemporary art from Australia and around the world. This year’s Biennale is structured around thematic ‘embassies’ – transient homes for particular constellations of thought – which will see The MCA transformed into the Embassy of Translation, bringing together a range of artistic practices that revisit historical positions and artefacts alongside contemporary concerns and working methods. While relying on a range of different strategies, each considers history as one material among others, restaging and reimagining it as part of the process.
Artists: Nina Beier, Céline Condorelli, Daniel Boyd, Noa Eshkol, Germaine Kruip, Adam Linder, Kazimir Malevich, Helen Marten, Shahryar Nashat, and Dayanita Singh. Additionally, Richard Bell’s Embassy occupies the MCA forecourt as one of the 20th Biennale’s ‘in-between’ projects.
The 20th Biennale of Sydney extends across seven ‘Embassies of Thought’ throughout Sydney, for more information visit 20bos.com
