Denise Scott Influence of My Mother

Whistler’s portrait of his mother was painted with great warmth and tenderness. “As a young adult I imagined my future would involve swanning around exotic, bohemian, European salons wearing a silk shawl, gaily smoking and drinking whilst creating marvellous, cutting edge, avant-garde theatre.

In reality I found myself living/stuck in suburban Melbourne, feeling utterly responsible for my grief-stricken, recently-widowed mother and my two young children. And so I became a stand-up comic in the genuine belief it would give me time to be creative and have a fab career whilst remaining a totally devoted daughter and mother.”

In this special event Denise shares her thoughts on the ups and downs of motherhood as both a mother and daughter.
