Painting. More Painting explores the pictorial logic and medium condition of contemporary painting, bringing together a broad range of dedicated and rigorous practices to explore the ways in which artists continue to reinvent painting within strict limitations, and in response to new perceptual conditions brought about by digital and virtual realms. It will also explore the specific dialogues that painters share as colleagues, as well as with artists that came before them.

The work of fourteen influential Australian painters will be presented in a series of solo studies offering focused insights into their practices and approach. These will be complemented by an extensive panoramic group exhibition presented in ACCA’s main hall that brings together works by sixty senior, mid and early-career Australian artists. Set within a dynamic mural-scale wall-painting, audiences will be offered the chance to draw on the many diverse conceptual, polemic and stylistic connections that exist between generations.
