ACMI X joins the offices of ACMI’s operational teams and the Melbourne office of the National Film and Sound Archive (NFSA), with individuals and organisations working in the creative industries. The 60 seat co-working studio is a 2000sqm state of the art office space, designed by award winning architects Six Degrees and located in the heart of Melbourne’s flourishing Southbank arts precinct.

The brainchild of ACMI Director and CEO, Katrina Sedgwick, ACMI X has quickly developed an ecosystem actively fostering collaboration and experimentation, and providing professional development among co-workers and with industry through its events program. Importantly, the concept leverages ACMI’s resources back into the creative sector at a time when creative organisations are under pressure and addresses the critical needs of individuals and small organisations, including affordable accommodation (in some cases sponsored or subsidised), industry masterclasses, and opportunities for cross pollination.

“ACMI X is actively supporting the next generation of leading creative industry professionals by sharing our resources and knowledge with the sector,” said Sedgwick.

“We warmly welcome our new co-workers to the ACMI X studio. We are delighted with the spread of disciplines from digital agencies to virtual reality filmmakers and festivals to funding agencies – a truly a dynamic set of organisations and individuals.”

“We also welcome RMIT University to the community and look forward to their students and researchers benefiting from the industry immersion and professional development events we have in store for our members.”

As part of its mission to engage with industry and practitioners broadly, ACMI X has created an Industry Membership enabling casual access to ACMI X and its associated events and networking program. The studio has partnered with Media Lab Melbourne, Web Directions, The Arcade, Lean Filmmaking, KJR Consulting and Experimenta to present a program of events for members to enhance their practice and meet industry professionals.

Copyright Agency Cultural Fund has sponsored a residency at ACMI X for one year which will support local writer, Cher Coad.

ACMI X is seeking expressions of interest for the 12 remaining long-term co-working spaces.

A practical and vibrant place to work and meet designed to facilitate collaboration and peer learning, the facilities include office infrastructure and high speed internet, meeting rooms, a multipurpose events space, café area and amenities including bicycle parking.
