Starting with an early 1930s streetscape, it includes examples of Tucker’s gritty social commentaries of the 1940s, his later evocations of Antipodean archetypes—bushrangers, explorers, gamblers—, and his textured landscapes inspired by the Victorian bush and the ancient rainforests of the Goldcoast Hinterlands. Throughout his life, Tucker maintained a practice of self-portraiture, creating piercing images of self-observation that reflect his journey as an artist. Several of these will be displayed alongside portraits Tucker painted of friends and associates in the final decades of his life.
