Eight Wednesday painting sessions in Queenscliff - Beginners to professionals welcome
DETAILS INSTRUCTOR: Philip Davey DATE: Wednesdays 17 May – Jul 5, 2017 TIME: 10am – 2pm (hour lunch break) LOCATION: Queenscliff surrounds (weather permitting)/QG&W mezzanine (weather not permitting) COST: $1600 PLACES: 8
Keeping to a small class of 6 – 8, Philip will share his extensive experience with en plein air painting and guide each participant with all aspects of the technique at their level – whether beginner or professional. Participants are required to bring their own materials. QG&W can purchase materials on your behalf but please allow 2 weeks.
Each participant will explore the technique with Philip who has been painting in the landscape throughout his career. Each participant will be able to progress at their own pace and receive the attention suited to their experience.
Philip will instruct on the following:
• various ways of preparing a canvas or board
• selection of a palette suited to landscapes
• how to mix colours and paint
• mediums and other materials (brushes, solvents etc)
• observation in the landscape
• underpainting technique, application of paint
• completing the painting using a range of techniques
Participants can expect to complete a few paintings over the 8 sessions.
Weather permitting the workshop will be held outside every Wednesday. Weather not permitting a still life will be setup in the QG&W mezzanine.
During lunch, participants have the option of sitting together and discussing their work and comparing the imagery and techniques of contemporary and historic landscape painters to further develop their understanding of the options available when painting en plein air.
