Bare Loggia is a painting and installation exhibition exploring light, space and movement.

The title refers to the architectural feature, ‘Loggia’, which describes an open gallery framed by pillars and arches, traditionally conducive to the passage of shaded strolls and lost thoughts. Haley’s resin paintings provide a corridor of light filled pauses along an installation of wall-painting and reflective surfaces in nude tones, bronze and gold.

Rochelle Haley is an artist and researcher working with experimental drawing, painting, movement and performance practice. She is interested in the relationship between bodies and physical environments. Her current projects involve drawing, painting and dance to explore space structured around the sensation of the moving body. Haley’s research in the fields of contemporary drawing and painting explores the material surface of representation to discover methods that are sensory, kinaesthetic, affective and rhythmic with an interdisciplinary reach to performance.

Haley lectures in expanded painting and experimental drawing at UNSW Art & Design Australia, where she completed a PhD in 2009. She has staged 8 solo exhibitions and has participated in over 45 national and international group exhibitions and collaborations, including curatorial selection for shows and performances at leading national venues Hazelhurst Regional Gallery, Museum of Contemporary Art Sydney Artbar and UNSW Galleries. Her solo and group exhibitions have garnered national and state media coverage including The Sydney Morning Herald, The Australian, Art Monthly Australia and The Art Life and interviews in Artist Profile Magazine and Das Platforms. Her works are held in the collections of Artbank, NSW Attorney Generals Department, Gadens Lawyers, Principle Advisory Services and Hijjas Kasturi Associates. Haley has been artist in residence at Artspace, Sydney, Cite Internationale des Arts, Paris, France; Performing Arts Forum, St Erme, France; Drawing Spaces, Lisbon, Portugal; Rimbun Dahan, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and Bundanon, NSW, Australia.
