FRONT GALLERY : : BEING HUMAN by Rachel Perrin
In this series of large scale figurative paintings Rachel Perrin investigates emotional process and layered states of being.

“I use direct lighting, shadows and multiple images of my sitters to highlight emotional flux, and transcend physical likeness in traditional portraiture to achieve a broader insight into the individual, and into the complexities of simply being human,” Perrin says.

These compelling works mark a leap forward in the artists practice and in her use of wood burning and oil paint as core mediums; and further demonstrate Perrin’s growing interest in the genre of portraiture.

BACK GALLERY : : RES COGITANS by Rhys Knight
Based upon Descartes’ theory of dualism throughout the 17th century, ‘Res Cogitans’ is a modern exploration of the dichotomy between mind and body (spirit and matter) and the subsequent alienation one experiences through this duality. Appropriating Laing’s (1959) existential study on Schizophrenia, the metaphysical proclamation of both religious and mechanistic philosophy relates to the distinction between mind and matter (the embodied and the unembodied) and has subsequently operated as the methodology for this series.

UPSTAIRS GALLERY : : LATERALISATIOИ by Liam Snootle
noun
[lat-er-uh-luh-zey-shuhn]
The functional specialisation of the brain with some skills, such as analytical and mathematical occurring primarily in the left hemisphere and others, such as perception of visual and spatial relationships occurring primarily on the right.

Liam Snootle presents new paintings that encourage an internal dialogue by stimulating the viewer’s lateralisation.

SIDE GALLERY : LIVE YOUR BEST LIFE by Coco Meacham
‘Live Your Best Life’ is a satirical take on the ‘millennial motivational speak’ trend set against the often stark banality of everyday life. One of the challenging aspects of the human condition is accepting the imperfect worlds we inhabit; the myriad identities that cannot and often refuse to be neatly designed, experienced and understood. As motivational fine art memes with allusions to smart phone editing, these recent works by Coco Meacham poke fun at the serious business of platitudes, curating the mundane and allowing a moment to revel in the everyday funk of being.
