Creepy, Disturbing Secrets in must-see Taryn Simon's An American Index of the Hidden and Unfamiliar image

Residents of Melbourne can currently check out an exhibition of Taryn Simon's significant photographic essay 'An American Index of the Hidden and Unfamiliar', now showing at the Centre for Contemporary Photography as part of the Melbourne Festival.

Taryn visited a large variety of locations which are hidden from view in the United States. Topics include the interior of Cheyenne Mountain where a United States Defense Force operations centre is housed, designed to be fully protected from a nuclear attack, as well as an Arabic television station which is banned from broadcast in the US.

The content is incredibly compelling, and is thoroughly documented in the hard cover catalogue which retails at $100. An essential item for any Academic library with a collection of books on contemporary photographic art.

On view until December 12.
