Kiki Smith wins Brooklyn Museum's Women in the Arts Award

Community Committee and the Director of the Brooklyn Museum are proud to announce this year's Women in the Arts award recipient is Kiki Smith, one of the most significant artists of her generation.

In a career spanning more than three decades, Smith has produced an oeuvre unique in its engagement with social and political mores, particularly as they relate to the physical experiences and emotional lives of women.

A major installation of her work, Kiki Smith: Sojourn, will open at the Museum’s Elizabeth A. Sackler Center for Feminist Art on February 5, 2010.

Former recipients of the Women in the Arts award are Dr. Elizabeth A. Sackler, Dr. Mary Schmidt Campbell, Maya Lin, Annie Leibovitz, The Guerrilla Girls, and Cindy Sherman.
