2012 Macquarie Photography Prize winners announced

Luke Peterson from Avoca Beach on the Central Coast of NSW, Australia has won the 2012 Macquarie Photography Prize. His Best in Show photo from the Storms section titled ‘Divine Light’, was a standout for the judge Craig Parry. “The elements of this picture, combined with true photographic skill, have produced an epic piece.

The glowing grass fields composed with the tree and rainbow draw the eye from all directions. A truly inspirational ‘work of art’” said Parry.

The shot was taken during a storm near Coonabarabran in NSW, Australia. Luke receives the $5,000 major prize.

Luke Peterson will be the judge for the 2013 Macquarie Photography Prize.

Leo Kennedy from Blaxland in NSW, Australia has won the 2012 MPP People’s Choice.

His photograph, which was taken while on a holiday tour in Australia’s outback, is of a family fishing in the calm of a recently flooded Menindee Lake with a wild storm in the distance.

Leo wins $3,000 worth of camera equipment from Camerahouse. A great holiday reward!!

Entry for the 2013 Macquarie Photography Prize is now open. It features a big increase in prizes to $16,000AUD with a $10,000AUD 1st prize.
