Australian resale royalty generates $455k in royalties

Art Press Release from Australia. Published by Rebecca Gabrielle Cannon on Wednesday 26 October 2011.

Since the Australian resale royalty scheme was launched in June 2010, the Australian Copyright Agency has benefitted more than 330 artists.

As of 12 October 2011, resales generating over $455,000 in royalties have been reported to Copyright Agency. Over 60% of the artists receiving royalties are Indigenous and, whilst the majority of artists (again over 60%) have received one royalty payment, some have received multiple.

More than 4,000 artists have registered with Copyright Agency, making it easier for the agency to contact them when their work has been resold.

Copyright Agency’s Resale Royalty Manager, Judy Grady, can help with reporting sales correctly and can provide more information about a new streamlined method for reporting sales valued at under $1,000. Please call Judy toll-free on 1800 066 844 or email
