Sydney, Australia: The British Council Realise Your Dream awards finalists have been announced, with 15 young creatives from across the country shortlisted for the coveted annual award. The finalists will travel to Sydney to pitch their ?dreams? on stage at a live Awards Night, hosted by Big Brother?s Gretel Killeen on Wednesday 23 October, in the hope of becoming one of the five winners.

This year?s finalist selection ? who must all be within the first ten years of their practice ? includes candidates specialising in animation, playwriting, design, graphic design, theatre, digital engagement, performance, Jazz music, dance and disability advocacy, production and interdisciplinary arts.

Finalists were selected following a series of written applications and industry-panel interviews that sorted through more than 750 applicants. The finalists are: Darcy Prendergast (Vic), Lara Torr (SA), Anna Lise De Lorenzo (NSW), Camille Manley (NSW) He Made She Made (NSW), Melinda Garcia (NSW), Tristan Meecham (Vic), Sean Foran (Qld), Aimee Smith (WA), Thomas Banks (Vic), Maxine Mellor (Qld), Eliza Sarlos (NSW), Alex Deserbrock (Vic), Tobias Manderson-Galvin (Vic), The Honeytrap (Vic).

Unique among awards for young creatives, Realise Your Dream requires applicants to demonstrate artistic talent as well as formulating a ?dream? career plan for a professional development trip the United Kingdom.

For the past 11 years, Realise Your Dream has enable young creatives the opportunity to meet, work alongside and collaborate with the most exciting United Kingdom creative organisations and practitioners. In addition to a return flight to the UK, courtesy of Virgin Atlantic, and a cash prize of $5,000, winners work in consultation with the British Council to shape a professional development trip to the United Kingdom that is tailored, specially, to each winner?s individual needs.

The next stage for the finalists will be to engagingly and convincingly sell their ?dream? to an audience of creative industry leaders. The finalists will be required to pitch their case to a judging panel with a three-minute multi-media presentation.

Director of British Council Australia, Nick Marchand says, “It’s always an incredible privilege to meet the finalists of Realise Your Dream. Over the last decade we’ve seen so many extraordinary talents, in so many art forms. Of course, the cruelty of their success is leaving you in awe of their talent and ambition, inspired by their ambition and drive, and now plagued with self-doubt when it comes to your own modest endeavours!”

The five winners of Realise Your Dream 2013 will be announced Awards Night, which will take place at Sydney?s Oxford Art Factory on the 23 October. The British Council will also announce that evening the winner of a new category ? the Realise Your Dream / Time Out People?s Choice Award.

The Realise Your Dream / Time Out People?s Choice Award will be open for public voting from 9am Friday 4 October to midday Tuesday 22 October.
