Pearl Lam Galleries, one of the most influential drivers of Asia's contemporary art scene, will launch into the Australian market for the first time this August, with a major presence at one of Australia’s most respected and longest running art events, the 2014 Melbourne Art Fair, featuring work by ten leading contemporary artists from around the world.

Pearl Lam, Founder and Director of Pearl Lam Galleries, has also been announced as Keynote Speaker for the Melbourne Art Fair Lecture, to be presented on Monday 11 August 2014.

Ms Lam has been at the forefront of reimagining China’s cultural place in the world for more than ten years, having established one of Asia’s most culturally ambitious contemporary art galleries with bases in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Singapore. Lam is also known for her work as an active arts patron, collector and curator, as well as for founding the China Art Foundation in 2008.

Commenting on the move into the Australian market, Ms Lam said: “Pearl Lam Galleries seeks to foster cross-cultural dialogue between China and the rest of the world through art. We are always looking for new platforms to exhibit our artists and have been looking to enter the Australian market for some time now.

“We were especially encouraged by Melbourne’s growing interest in Chinese and Asian artists. The Melbourne Art Fair is an established quality event that is ideal an ideal platform for our entry into the Australian art market,” added Ms Lam.

At the Melbourne Art Fair, running from 14 until 17 August 2014 in Carlton Gardens’ historic Royal Exhibition Building, Pearl Lam Galleries will present works from notable Chinese artists including: Zhu Jinshi, Qin Yufen, Su Xiaobai, and Michael Chow (aka Zhou Yinghua O-O), alongside new works by acclaimed Australian painter Ben Quilty; English painter Loreta Sáez Franco; Japanese artist Sayaka Ishizuka; Tibeten born artist Gonkar Gyatso; American artist Carlos Rolon; and Portuguese artist Joana Vasconcelos.
