Sydney, Australia: Kaldor Public Art Projects has received hundreds of applications for their premiere open call project for Australian artists, YOUR VERY GOOD IDEA. The project, which celebrates the organisation’s 45th anniversary asked Australian artists to submit concepts for a large scale, temporary, site-specific art project to be realised in Sydney.

The open call received outstanding applications from artists living in every state of Australia as well as expatriates based in London, Berlin and Paris. Some of Australia’s leading artists submitted large scale and intricate concepts, proposing the transformation of Sydney’s most interesting public spaces.

Artists at the beginning of their careers also submitted applications, taking the opportunity for their ambitious concepts to be judged against their peers and mentors, with the chance that they may be realised with the help of the organisation. The works proposed include, installations, artistic interventions, video, interactive works, sculpture and socially engaging initiatives, with several artistic collaborations forming specifically for the project.

The winning artist will be announced on Tuesday 9th September 2014 following a review of the top 10 submissions by an international judging panel comprised of leading local and international curators. The judging panel includes: Nick Baume, Director and Chief Curator of Public Art Fund, New York; James Lingwood, Co-Director of Artangel, London; Jessica Morgan, Daskalopolous Curator of International Art at the Tate Modern; Nick Mitzevich, Director of the Art Gallery of South Australia; Alexie Glass-Kantor, Executive Director of Artspace, Sydney; and John Kaldor, Director, Kaldor Public Art Projects.
