ACMI in Melbourne has taken out four first prize awards at the prestigious 2015 Museums Australia Multimedia and Publication Design Awards in Sydney last weekend.

The national awards program celebrates design excellence in the museum sector across Australia and New Zealand. In 2015, ACMI has been recognised with four major awards for design excellence, including the distinctive Judges Special Award – more awards than any other entrant.

ACMI’s Year in Review was winner in the Magazine (Level B) Category with the judging panel describing it as “striking with bold use of black and white. Contemporary design is reflective of the institution’s character.” This is the third consecutive year that ACMI’s Year in Review has been featured as a finalist or winner in Australia’s major design awards competition. ACMI’s new website took out top honour in the Institution Website category with judges praising the site as having “sophisticated navigation with nice use of colour to distinguish sections. Bold use of colour contrast and type, consistent with the organisation’s identity.” Visit the ACMI website here.

ACMI’s critically acclaimed China Up Close program provided audiences with truly unique insights into Chinese screen-based practice and its symbiotic relationship with the powerful changes experienced in China today, through a series of exhibitions, talks, workshops, live events and films.

The motion graphics for the program was announced winner of the Multimedia Category and also a stand-alone Special Judges Prize. The judging panel heaped praise on the work, describing it as “evocative and sensitive. Film shot and presented without stereotypes of Chinese art and culture. Presents contemporary China sympathetically and is a sophisticated representation of Australian cultural diversity. Exciting use of colour, lovely branding.” Explore China Up Close here.

ACMI Director & CEO, Katrina Sedgwick, described the awards as fantastic sector and industry recognition of the ACMI Design Team’s commitment to excellence and innovation in both design and brand development.

“To have such glowing industry endorsement of our passion and commitment to translating ACMI’s unique brand values through contemporary and sophisticated design is truly rewarding,” Sedgwick said.

ACMI’s largest ever, world premiere exhibition, DreamWorks Animation: The Exhibition also received a High Commendation at the recent Museums Australia Museums & Galleries National Awards. The judging panel’s comments were that the exhibition “clearly demonstrates the principles of originality, innovation, creativity, design, education outcomes, standards of excellence, accessibility, and diversity to deliver a high-end exhibition product that surprises and delights its audiences. Great opportunity created to partner with major international filmmaking company in a significant and genuine collaboration.”
