With a penchant for pop art and an instinctive ear to the ground, Brooklynite Gallery’s director Rae McGrath is breaking new ground in Bed Stuy. As an artist and filmmaker born & raised in Brooklyn, this artist-run gallery is geared towards street art with a hint of pop—but not necessarily. McGrath feels the art that will be featured at Brooklynite should not defined by category. “When you see something, and it just works – that’s the kind of art we plan to show.” The modern building that houses Brooklynite Gallery was designed and created by Rae McGrath – bringing modern design to the area has created an unprecedented buzz of excitement to the neighborhood.
