Art Gallery in New York, United States.

Founded in June 2007 in New York’s gallery district Chelsea, Martos Gallery is the third enterprise of Jose Martos, who previously co-owned the Alona Kagan Gallery in Chelsea and the Martos Kagan Gallery in Soho.

Known for organizing historically important exhibitions incorporating canonical figures such as Keith Haring, Andy Warhol, Lawrence Weiner, David Salle and many others, Jose Martos has built a sophisticated foundation of contemporary art for his most recent venture. An especially noteworthy group exhibition was STRANGE WEIGHT, curated by Rob Tufnell, who described the exhibition as “one of accelerated and condensed histories.”

The core focus of the gallery is the representation of an array of internationally renowned artists, both established and emerging, working with a plethora of media. Bill Albertini, Jan Kopp, Servane Mary, Curtis Mitchell, Lyle Starr, Caecilia Tripp and Pawel Wojtasik have exhibited widely in museums, galleries and art fairs throughout the world. Each artist’s work demonstrates the gallery’s mission of exhibiting challenging contemporary art.

In early 2009 GrĂ©goire Maisonneuve, who until recently headed his own gallery in Paris, joined Martos Gallery as a partner and has since then successfully implemented his experience and vision. Caecilia Tripp, formerly represented by Galerie Maisonneuve, is a valuable addition to the gallery’s ensemble of artists and contributes greatly to the gallery’s versatile and ambitious program.
