Paul Yore - ????? ???? (Panta Rei)

Yore's first solo exhibition at Anna Pappas Gallery presents a series of paintings without paint. Plasticine has been worked into thousands of fine layers of colour in order to build up a sculptural impasto. Drawing from the ancient proverb by Heraclitus of Ephesus that 'everything flows', the works depict a lurid multiverse in fluxus; a shifting, unstable physical or intellectual division.

David Palliser - Extended Foot

Bursting through active layers, gestural mark-making, illusions of sculptural forms - David Palliser's second solo exhibition at Anna Pappas Gallery continues his exploration of contemporary abstract painting. Working on the traditional principles of painting, he creates vividly rich works with ecstatic inventions and exasperated analysis.

New Wave: Experimental Painting - Billy Gruner & Sarah Keighery

Gruner and Keighery have been radical advocates of purist styles of work since 1995, and what that implies is a kind of successional approach to contemporary art and its preferences. They draw on their influence from the experimental painting movement of the 80s, which brought a savage return to reductive practices.

Brad Haylock - Without Time

Without Time continues Brad Haylock's ongoing questioning of the commodification of critical practices, in particular the intersection of artistic avant-gardes and luxury capitalism. The exhibition's title is derived with irony from a literal mistranslation of the Italian phrase 'senza tempo', accurately translated as 'timeless', the name of the 2010 collection by Italian furniture maker Minotti.

Elisabeth Weissensteiner - Fragments and Dances

We understand life as movement in time, and we understand dance as movement in a pattern. So if we move in our life from one place to another we are performing a short dance. If we move often our dance becomes more varied. The earth is a continuously moving ball, sometimes even moving erratically, how can we assume that we ever stand still on stable ground?

Rod Moss - Mirror

There is little in Australian art that might stand as precursor to Rod Moss’s disturbing Central Australian paintings. Arthur Boyd’s ‘Bride’ series, which was inspired by a trip to the Centre and takes as its subject the marriage of a half-caste Aboriginal bride, might certainly by one contender. Boyd however had a painter’s penchant for harmony that nowadays eclipses their tragic conten

Matt Coyle – The Shades: New Drawings and PrintsGallery 1 (Downstairs)

Matt Coyle’s signature use of black pen on white paper has evolved over many years, allowing him to explore the possibilities of line and the dramatic effects of light and shadow. Imbuing his images with dense pictorial narratives of disturbing and macabre scenes, he brings out what is hidden, murky or indistinct within the shadows, making The Shades horrifying yet strangely absorbing.

The paintings in Nerve Bangle have a formalist’s love of the elemental beauty of picture making: a series of studies or explorations of the relationship between colour, line, shape, texture and the illusions depth and volume. They are experiments in perception that render the microscopic physics of sight in giant, simplified form.
