LIVE IN THE STUDIO: QUEERING THE SMALL SCREEN… PART II

The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) continues its popular Live in the Studio program this March with the second edition of Queering the Small Screen. The first edition in April 2012 sold out and Part II promises to be just as popular and this year, it is presented in partnership with the Melbourne Queer Film Festival.

Ian Burns: In the Telling

The Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI) proudly presents In the Telling, an exhibition of new works by New York based Australian artist Ian Burns. Presented in ACMI’s Gallery 2, In the Telling launches the latest ACMI Commission, a suite of five interconnected kinetic sculptures which generate their own real-time video, titled anywhere and here.

Philip Brophy performing 'Kissed'

Composed and performed by Philip Brophy, Kissed is a live score accompanying Andy Warhol's silent film series Kiss (1964). Performed in quadraphonic sound and based around a series of Brophy's recorded and processed acoustic drum recordings, Kissed creates a pulsating rhythmic dialogue with the film's kissing couples.

In Hori Smoku Sailor Jerry (2009), director Erich Weiss delivers a biopic on the godfather of contemporary American tattoo art, Norman ‘Sailor Jerry’ Collins. Combining archival footage and anecdotes from Sailor Jerry’s renowned industry colleagues – Ed Hardy, Michael Malone, Lyle Tuttle, Zeke Owen and Eddie Funk – the film is a lively tribute to a true folk artist.
